Things that Elder Sims Can’t Do in The Sims 4

Every Sim eventually becomes an Elder. At this stage, many things change quickly. Your Sim will get tired more easily, their appearance will change, and they won’t be able to do certain activities.

Yes, Elders in The Sims do have some limitations due to their age. Here are some things that Elder Sims can’t do.

Getting pregnant

Elder female Sims are past their childbearing years, but Elder male Sims can still father children with adult female Sims.

While female Elders can no longer become pregnant, they can still adopt children or have a science baby.

Working certain jobs

Certain careers, like Athlete or Secret Agent, demand high physical stamina or agility, which Elder Sims just can’t manage. As a result, they won’t be able to pursue these career paths.

Limited skill development

Elder Sims can still learn and improve their skills, but their progress is often slower than younger Sims due to lower energy and reduced physical abilities.

Engaging in strenuous activities

Older Sims tire more easily and can’t handle high-energy activities like jogging or strenuous tasks. They move more slowly, and even moderate physical work can quickly drain their energy.

Extreme sports and some athletic interactions are limited by age. Elder Sims can’t take part in certain club activities in Get Together, and some events may also be restricted to younger Sims.

Elder Sims can’t woohoo repeatedly without quickly becoming exhausted. If they continue for too long, it can be deadly. Woohooing while under the Dangerously Tired moodlet can lead to death from overexertion.

Limited interactions

Elder Sims typically don’t take part in Night on the Town events with free food and drinks. You’ll often see a message saying they “ignored this tradition” because of their age.

They also tend to flirt or engage in romantic interactions less than younger Sims. This makes sense because they’re older, and even the Sim society might not expect them to act that way.

Unique Things Elder Sims Can Do That Younger Sims Cannot

Own family keepsake boxes

Elder Sims can own family keepsake boxes, which let them collect and preserve treasured items. They can also pass these boxes down to other Sims to share family memories and heirlooms across generations.

Die from smelling Death Flowers

They can die instantly if they get too close to death flowers. Elder Sims are closer to the end of their lives, so even a quick brush with death flowers can be deadly.

Have the Wise trait

Only Elders can have the Wise trait, unlocking unique interactions and moodlets. The Wise trait reflects a Sim who has seen enough of life to understand what truly matters. These Sims love sharing their insights, making them great mentors for younger Sims.

The Wise trait is exclusive to Elder Sims and was introduced in The Sims 4: For Rent.

Reminisce on rocking chairs

They can sit and reflect on memories in rocking chairs. Younger Sims don’t get to experience these quiet moments of nostalgia.

Rocking chairs became available with Nifty Knitting Stuff, and later packs like Growing Together, Horse Ranch, and Life & Death added even more designs for Elder Sims to enjoy.

Retire

Elders can retire using their smartphone and receive a daily pension.  Retirement gives them more free time to enjoy hobbies, socialize, and focus on the things they love.

Happy Simming!
