Here’s what happens if you don’t pay your bills on time in The Sims 4.
1. Bills Change Color
When bills arrive, and you don’t pay them, they change color. They start white, turn yellow, orange, and finally red. Red means you need to pay your bills right away.
It takes about two days for the color of the bills to change.
2. Electricity Will Be Cut Off
If you don’t pay your bills within 48 hours after the bills turn red, your electricity will be turned off. This means you won’t be able to use any electrical appliances or electronics.
Food in the fridge will spoil, and your Sims won’t be able to cook anything.
3. Water Supply Will Be Cut Off
If you still haven’t paid within 96 hours, your water supply will be cut off. This means no baths or flushing the toilet. Your Sims may also get the Filthy Surroundings moodlet.
Also, if your Sims own any retail or restaurant lots, those will be affected too.
4. Repo-Man Repossesses Items
If your bills remain unpaid for 48 hours after your water supply is cut off, the repo-man will show up. They will take away furniture and other valuable items from your home.
Sims Can Fight the Repo-Man
If your Sims see the repo-man coming to take something, they can try to stop them. They might ask the repo-man to leave the item, try to appeal to their kindness, bribe them, or even fight them.
If successful, the repo-man might leave without taking anything.
5. Live Off-the-Grid and Say Goodbye to Bills
If your Sims can’t or don’t want to pay the bills, they can try living off-the-grid.
For example, if you have the Outdoor Retreat pack, your Sims can use a camping shower. With the Get Together pack, they can use a toilet bush. Grills will still work even if the bills aren’t paid, so your Sims can live on grilled food.
With Enchanted by Nature, once your Sim hits level 2 in Natural Living, they can click on the ground and forage for food. They can also sleep outside under the stars or bathe in open water.
The best part? None of these activities generates any bills.
→ Note for Apartment Dwellers
If your Sims live in an apartment and don’t pay the bills, the landlord won’t handle any problems with the apartment.
