Why Lot Taxes Are So High in The Sims 4

Many Sims 4 players have complained about high lot taxes. Often, this is what causes bills to get out of control. Here’s why lot taxes can sometimes be very high in the game.

How Are Lot Taxes Calculated?

Lot taxes are based on the value of your house and everything in your Sim’s Household Inventory. Both household and individual inventories contribute to the taxes.

Your Lot Taxes Will Increase If You:

  • Live in an expensive mansion
  • Own expensive items and decorations
  • Keep large amounts of harvestable fruits and vegetables in your fridge, inventory, or lot
  • Make a vault and stash money in it

Things That Increase Lot Taxes

  • Using electric lights instead of candles (increases taxes in Eco-Lifestyle)
  • Televisions, computers, fridges, and other electrical equipment
  • Owning expensive items
  • Stashing lottery winnings in a vault (the money becomes part of the lot)
  • Items stuck in your household inventory when changing a build

When changing a build or moving, decorations and furniture can get stuck in your Household Inventory, adding to your lot taxes even though they’re not on your lot.

Always have some extra Simoleons so bills don’t wipe you out. Sometimes, selling unused items is a quick way to cover a bill. Fewer lights, smaller houses, and eco-friendly upgrades can reduce costs.

Here are a few easy tips to pay your lot taxes and bills without stress.

1. Grow Money Trees

If your house has at least 5 money trees, the fruits you harvest should be enough to pay any bill.

2. Get the Off-the-Grid lot trait

This trait reduces your lot taxes by 25%. Your Sims will appreciate the discount.

3. Get the Frugal Reward Trait

If you have Frugal Sims in your household, your bills get cheaper. The more frugal Sims you have, the bigger the discount.

One frugal Sim gives you 25% off, and the savings stack as you add more. With a full household of eight frugal Sims, you can get up to 90% off your bills.

4. Grow High-Paying Plants

If your Sims like to grow plants, make sure they grow the plants that make the most money. Try growing oversized crops.

5. Harvest or Sell Produce Before Bills Arrive

Make sure you harvest or sell any produce and flowers before Monday bills arrive, otherwise they’ll be counted toward your lot taxes. All the items placed on your lot affect taxes, so clearing them out helps keep costs down.

For timing:

  • Bills arrive on Mondays at 10 AM
  • Produce and flowers can be harvested starting at 5 AM

So if you harvest early Monday morning, you can avoid paying extra taxes on them.

6. Pursue Passive Income Sources

  • Every book you finish and publish generates daily revenue.
  • Complete the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration to earn a lot of Simoleons based on your Sims’ money.
  • Use Nano Cans: These trash cans pay you to dispose of your trash.

Happy Simming!
