In The Sims 4, bills arrive once a week. They land in your mailbox every Monday at 10 AM. You can pay your bills by clicking on yourcellphone, a computer, or the mailbox.
Bills in The Sims 4 are more expensive than in previous versions, and are calculated using a system of tax brackets.
Here’s how bills are calculated in the Sims 4:
- Lot Value: This includes the house and all objects on it. Higher lot value means higher bills.
- Objects on the Lot: Expensive furniture and electronics increase bills. More items mean higher costs.
- Utilities: Using water and electricity impacts your bills. More usage results in higher bills.
- Thermostat Usage: If you have the Seasons expansion, using the thermostat increases your bills.
Everything in your household and inventory affects your bills.
The Tax Bracket System in The Sims 4
The first 20K worth of items in your house is billed at one percentage, then the next 10K at a higher percentage, and so on.
This means bills start low but increase rapidly as you build a bigger house and earn more income.
In The Sims 4, bills are determined by the cost of your house items. Expensive items mean your Sims will need to work more to pay bills.
Begin with cheaper items, then use leftover money to upgrade your household with high-end items.
If you want luxury items and housing, you’ll need to work hard for them. All those expensive items will generate high bills.
Additional Expenses for Sims
Rent for Apartments
With the City Living expansion, Sims in apartments and penthouses must pay rent. Rent is included in the bill, not separate. Living in a pricey apartment means higher bills due to rent costs.
Student Loans from University
Students pursuing a degree must pay student loans in Discover University. Failure to pay on time results in the repo man collecting a random item of similar value to the loan.
Saving Money on Bills in The Sims 4
- Get the Frugal trait to reduce bills by 25%.
- Select the Off-the-Grid lot trait to reduce lot taxes by 25% for residential lots.
- Occasionally, bills may be as low as one Simoleon, if you’re lucky.
Why Am I Getting Charged $1 for Sims 4 Bills?
If you’re using mods that alter bills, like Realistic Bills or No More Bills, you might be seeing this low charge.
Your mods could be causing this $1 bill glitch. Disable them and see if the $1 bills persist. Outdated mods might cause issues, so update them to fix the problem.
Reset MCCC settings to default to see if it resolves the issue. Check every option to ensure they’re set back to default.
What Happens if You Don’t Pay the Bills in The Sims 4?
If bills aren’t paid within 48 hours, electricity is cut off. After another 48 hours, the household water supply is cut off. If you fail to pay your bills, the repo-man will eventually show up at your door.
Happy Simming!
