Finding and growing potatoes in The Sims 4 takes a bit of patience. They are rare plants, they only grow in winter, and they are easy to miss since they often look like plain roots on the ground.
Potatoes show up in a handful of specific places. Forgotten Grotto has them inside the hidden cave, but getting in there requires level ten Handiness to break through the barriers.
Granite Falls is another good spot, especially around the Ranger Station.
Newcrest sometimes spawns them in the Optimist’s Outlook area.
San Myshuno has a chance around Myshuno Meadows Park.
Willow Creek can spawn them in the Commercial District and near Foundry Cove.
Windenburg also has them around the Van Haunt Estate.
Seasons and Potatoes
Season matters a lot here. Potato plants only grow during winter, so checking these locations outside that season will not help.
Once winter hits, spend time in those areas and keep an eye on the ground for plants that look harvestable.
If only the base game is installed, Willow Creek is the easiest choice to find potatoes. Head to the community garden near Crick Cabana in Foundry Cove, and look for potatoes.
If the plants are not ready, stick around the neighborhood for a few days. Wild plants do not grow unless your Sim spends time nearby, so patience really pays off.
There are a few signs to watch for. If the only option is to look at the plant, it still needs more time. When the option to take a cutting appears, that usually means harvest time is just a few hours away.
Once potatoes are harvested, you can plant them back on your home lot. That makes it much easier to grow more later and helps complete the gardening collection without another long scavenger hunt.
For anyone who does not want to wait, the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat lets you buy potatoes directly. That skips the search entirely, though it does take away a bit of the challenge.
Happy Simming!
