The Possessed Buff in The Sims 4 [All You Need to Know]

In StrangerVille, Sims can sometimes become possessed, as if something’s taking over their mind. This buff takes over all their other emotions, leaving players with very little control over their Sims.

Most commands will be ignored. The only things they’ll respond to are the Go Here command and a few creepy social interactions with other Sims.

But if a Sim is in a group when they become Possessed, they’ll still have to do any group tasks. Being Possessed doesn’t let them skip out on group activities.

When a Sim becomes Possessed, all their needs will immediately fill to the max. These won’t start dropping until the Possessed emotion ends, which usually lasts around three in-game hours.

When you talk to a Possessed Sim, they might occasionally say “Welcome to StrangerVille”, even if you’re in another world. They’ll keep bringing up “The Mother” in their cryptic messages.

How to Get Sims Possessed

Any Sim teen or older can become possessed. There are a few ways your Sim can experience it.

Eat a Bizarre Fruit

You can buy Bizarre Fruit from the Curio Shop in the StrangerVille Plaza neighborhood and have your Sim eat it.

They’ll get the Possessed moodlet because of the Infected trait. This trait sticks around unless they’re vaccinated. Infected Sims will become Possessed every day at 1 AM for about three hours.

Making and drinking bizarre fruit juice is another way to trigger Possessed if you have the Eco-Lifestyle packs. Buy a fizzing machine, put the bizarre fruit in, and squeeze the juice.

When your Sim sips the juice, they’ll notice the fizz feels strange. Then, they’ll twist and contort, eerie music plays, and the Possessed emotion takes over.

Enter a Toxic Cloud

The second level of the secret lab has toxic clouds that can trigger the Possessed emotion if your Sim wanders through them. The moodlet will only last for 30 minutes.

By the way, even if a Sim has turned into a skeleton using a relic, they can still become Possessed from the toxic cloud.

Occults and the Possessed Buff

Vampires can become possessed, too, if they drink plasma from a Sim who has the Possessed buff.

Ghosts can’t be Possessed by toxic clouds. But they can become Possessed if they eat a Bizarre Fruit.

Servos cannot become Possessed neither from eating Bizarre Fruit nor from toxic clouds.

If a werewolf eats a Bizarre Fruit and becomes Possessed while raging, the two moods stack. The rage stays active, but the interactions for Possessed and Rage don’t overlap. Once the Rage moodlet ends, the Sim will turn back into a human and act like a normal Possessed Sim.

How to Get Rid of the Possessed Buff

Slap’em

You can try to wake Possessed Sims up by slapping them. This actually works, but only if the Sim has a high enough relationship with the Possessed Sim.

But that doesn’t always work smoothly. Most of the time, the Possessed Sim will block the attempt by grabbing the other Sim’s hand and bending it backwards.

It might take several tries before the Possessed Sim finally snaps out of their mood. Slapping a Possessed Sim won’t hurt your relationship. You can try as many times as you need.

Develop a Vaccine

If you want a permanent solution, you can remove the Infected trait completely but it takes some work. You’ll need to play through the StrangerVille storyline and gather a few key items to create a vaccine.

First, collect a Hazmat Suit, Spore Filter, and Infection Scanner. Keep progressing until you unlock the machines in the secret lab.

From there, you can start making experimental vaccines. Use these on three Possessed Sims to learn how to create the real cure.

Once you drink the final vaccine, the Infected trait is gone for good, and your Sim will never get Possessed again.

Delete the Infected Trait

To get rid of the Infected trait quickly, you can use cheats. Start by opening the cheat console (press Ctrl, Shift, and C), type testingcheats true, and press Enter.

Once cheats are enabled, enter traits.remove_trait Strangerville_Infected.

This will remove the Infected trait and stop your Sim from becoming Possessed.

Happy Simming!
