How to Make Your Sims Left Handed in The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, Sims can be either right-handed or left-handed, a trait randomly selected by the game. Most Sims are right-handed, and left-handed Sims are pretty rare.

To find out if your Sim is right or left-handed, just watch which hand they use for tasks like eating, writing, or chores. If they mostly use their left hand, they’re left-handed.

Or you can use a mod called ShowSimInfo to check hidden traits and see their handedness. In the game’s coding, right-handed Sims are labeled as “normal,” while left-handed Sims are tagged as “left-handed misfits.

Interestingly, hand preference isn’t selectable in CAS. You can choose likes, dislikes, romantic preferences, and body types, but apparently, choosing which hand your Sim uses is off-limits.

We’ll have to wait and see if EA lets players change this trait.

And wouldn’t it be cool if Sims could be ambidextrous?

How to Make Your Sim Left-Handed

There’s no in-game menu option to directly change your Sim’s handedness. However, you can use a cheat code if you want them to be left-handed.

If you’re okay with using cheats, you can open the cheat console and use the following commands to make your Sim mostly use their left hand:

  • |traits.remove_trait trait_handedness_right
  • |traits.equip_trait trait_handedness_left

Whether your Sim is left or right-handed doesn’t affect gameplay at all.

Unfortunately, some interactions always default to the right hand, no matter your Sim’s left-handedness. For example, painting and doing homework are always performed with the right hand.

Happy Simming!
