In The Sims 4, your Sims go through different stages, just like real people. They’re born, then become toddlers, kids, teenagers, young adults, adults, and elders.
But if you want one of your Sims to stick around longer, use the tips in this guide to help them add a few more years to their lifespan.
Help Your Sims Live Longer
Choose Long Lifespan
To make your Sim age more slowly, go to Game options, click on Gameplay, select Sim Lifespan, and then choose Long. This way, your Sim can live for a much longer time.
For example:
- Babies will live for 4 days
- Toddlers will live for 28 days
- Children and Teenagers will live for 56 days each
- Young Adults and Adults will live for 112 days each
- Elders will live for 56 days
With the Long Lifespan, your Sims will have a lot more time to do all the fun things they want to do.
Disable Auto Age
The game settings let you stop the aging process completely. To use it, go to Game options → Gameplay → Auto Age → set it to No.
Keep in mind that using the timeline freezer stops your Sims from having children and prevents existing children from growing up and becoming adults.
Use the Potion of Youth
The youth potion can make your Sim’s age go back to zero. But don’t wait until your Sim gets old to use it. Elder Sims can’t use the potion.
It’s best to give your Sim the youth potion when they’re adults but not elders yet. The adult stage lasts for 29 days in The Sims 4 (if you’re not using the Long Lifespan option).
So, make sure your Sim drinks the youth potion on the 28th day.
Where to get the potion? You can buy it from the LifeTime Reward Store for 1,500 points.
Drink the Potion of Regeneration
The Potion of Regeneration is a magical potion that a level 10 Spellcaster can make. When it works, it resets your Sim’s age, making them younger again, which is great if they’re close to aging up.
That said, it’s not perfect. There’s a chance it can fail, and if that happens, your Sim might actually age up instead.
Use the Essence of Life from Cow Plants
To use this method, another Sim needs to die. When a cow plant kills a Sim, it leaves behind the essence of life, which other Sims can obtain by milking the plant.
You have two options: sacrifice one of your Sims (maybe one you don’t like as much) or trick a guest into eating the cake that the cow plant puts out as bait.
Make the Age-Away Serum
If your Sim is a Scientist at level 10, they can create the Age-Away serum to reset a Sim’s age back to day 1.
Your scientist Sim can also use the cloning machine to duplicate all the youth potions, like the Potion of Youth and the Age-Away serum.
This method requires the Get to Work expansion.
Make an Excellent-Quality Orchid Arrangement
If your Sim has Level 10 in Flower Arranging, they can make an Excellent-quality Orchid Arrangement and scent it. Doing this can extend your Sim’s lifespan every 24 hours.
If you have enough Orchids to keep making them, you can use this trick to basically make your Sim immortal.
Befriend the Mother Plant
With the StrangerVille expansion, you can actually befriend the Mother Plant. If you build your relationship high enough, you can ask her for a gift once per day.
One of the possible gifts is a life extension gift. If you keep doing this, you can extend your Sim’s life for quite a while.
⇒ One More Tip
It’s worth mentioning that having more children could extend your Sim’s life. This method only works for female Sims, though.
However, not all players agree on how effective this method is. That’s why I decided to mention it briefly at the end of this guide instead of giving it its own section.
