Whenever a celebrity shows up nearby, your Sim will drop whatever they’re doing to react.
A few examples of how this plays out:
- A global superstar wanders onto a community lot, and suddenly a crowd of Sims and paparazzi swarm them.
- A celebrity walks into a restaurant, and the waiter gets so distracted they forget to bring your order.
- A date or event gets derailed entirely because a celebrity showed up and pulled a crowd of onlookers and paparazzi with them.
The celebrities themselves never seem to notice or care about the chaos they cause, which makes it even more frustrating.
How to Prevent Celebrity Fan Reactions
There are a few ways to deal with this, ranging from a manual fix to mods.
The most direct fix is to strip the celebrity’s public status when they show up.
Click on the celebrity Sim.
Remove their public status.
Go into your fame settings and enable All Sims Begin Opted Out of Fame.
This keeps regular Sims from being pulled into the spotlight. The downside is that it’s temporary. The game will keep generating new celebrities, so you’ll need to repeat this every time a new one shows up.
Quick tip: If you’re unhappy with your own Sim’s Fame Perks, a Celebrity Cleanse will reset them completely.
Use MCCC’s “Make Sim Leave” Option
If you use MC Command Center, there’s a built-in “Make Sim Leave” command. Keep an eye out for celebrities showing up uninvited, then use this option to send them away instantly.
For a more hands-off approach, the Townie Overhaul Less Fame mod stops celebrities from invading your lots and also cuts down on how often the game generates new townies.
Worth knowing before installing: several players have reported this mod causing existing Sims to get hijacked into townie-style roles they weren’t meant to have, which then requires manual cleanup. It’s not a perfect fix for everyone, but it may be worth trying if the other options aren’t enough.
Celebrities can currently wander anywhere in the world, and there’s no official way to restrict where they go.
Interestingly, The Sims 4: Werewolves pack introduced something close to this for werewolves. It doesn’t stop them from traveling to other worlds, but it does stop them from appearing in werewolf form outside Moonwood Mill.
Many players have pointed out that a similar system would be a great fit for other special Sim types, including vampires, spellcasters, mermaids, celebrities, and Sims from StrangerVille. A lot trait that blocks their appearance entirely could be another way to solve this down the line.
Bottom Line
Right now, the most reliable fix is manually removing public status combined with the fame opt-out setting, with MCCC’s “Make Sim Leave” as a fast backup option. Mods can help further, but come with some risk of side effects worth weighing first.
