If your Sim finishes the Bestselling Author aspiration, they can create a special book called the Book of Life. This isn’t just any book. It can actually bring dead Sims back to life.

The Book of Life is a special item that captures the life of a Sim within its pages. The author can use it to bring a dead Sim back to life. To trigger the resurrection, the ghost of the deceased Sim needs to read the book.
You can also use The Book of Life on a living Sim. Doing so will fill all their need bars and remove any negative emotions.
How to Write a Book of Life
To write The Book of Life, your Sim needs to have completed the Bestselling Author aspiration. Once the aspiration is finished, your Sim unlocks the Poetic Reward Trait. This special trait allows them to capture the life of another Sim in a book.
Each Book of Life can only be used on a single Sim. You need to create multiple books if you want to preserve more than one Sim’s life story.
Steps to Write a Book of Life
- Complete the Bestselling Author aspiration.
- Click on a computer and select The Book of Life.
- Write the book, capturing the epic saga of the Sim you want to bind it to.
- Store the book in your inventory.
Using The Book of Life to Resurrect a Sim
Once the book is written, it can be stored in your inventory until needed. To resurrect a Sim:
- Summon the ghost of the Sim whose life is captured in the book.
- Build up your relationship with the ghost and max out the friendship.
- Invite the ghost to join your household.
- Bring out The Book of Life and have the ghost read it.
Only playable ghosts can read the book. That’s why you need to add them to your household first.
Once the ghost reads the Book of Life, they come back to their previous, living form. After that, the book disappears, having done its job.
The great thing about The Book of Life is that you can summon a ghost at any time. You don’t have to wait for them to appear naturally on your lot.

The Book of Life must capture someone else’s life story to work. Only the ghost whose story the book records can read it and return to life.
Only the Sim who wrote the book can bind it to another Sim, and they cannot bind it to themselves.
If a ghost has already returned to the Netherworld, you cannot use the book to summon them.
