Once you turn a Sim into a werewolf and start leveling them up, new abilities open the door to a very different way of interacting with the world. One of the earliest and most useful ones is Enhanced Smell, which becomes available once your werewolf reaches the Runt rank.
With Enhanced Smell unlocked, your werewolf can rely on their nose to sniff the ground and search for buried treasures, tune into the emotions of other Sims, or figure out whether an occult Sim is nearby.
Emotions leave a scent, and your werewolf can literally smell how someone is feeling. Some scents are more appealing than others, so using this ability often leads to interesting reactions.
Enhanced Smell also reveals something unique about occult Sims. Each occult type gives off its own scent, which shows up as a colored cloud around them.
A regular Sim smells different from an alien, and aliens stand out clearly compared to mermaids or spellcasters. Vampires are especially easy to identify, both because of their scent and because your werewolf reacts strongly to it.
When a werewolf picks up the scent of a vampire, they immediately get a Dangerous Scent moodlet. That reaction reflects the long-standing tension between the two occult types.
Occult smell colors in The Sims 4
- Normal Sims: Yellow
- Aliens: Purple
- Mermaids: Blue
- Spellcasters: Rainbow
- Vampires: Black and purple
- Werewolves: Brownish red
⇒ Quick Tip:
If you want to actually dig up treasures, you also need the Scavenger ability. Enhanced Smell helps locate what is hidden, while Scavenger lets your Sim dig it out of the ground. Using both together can uncover secret books tied to werewolf lore.
Greg’s diary, for example, can be found in Moonwood Mill if your werewolf knows how to sniff properly.
Happy Simming!
