The Sims 4: How to Get Upgrade Parts the Easy Way

Once your Sim builds up their Handiness skill, they can start upgrading all kinds of household gadgets. But there’s a catch: you’ll need the right upgrade parts first.

Your Sim can repair broken items to snag some free upgrade parts in the process. And if you’re trying to boost the Handiness skill quickly, this is still the best method. Click on the pile and select Scavenge for Parts to get upgrade parts.

If you’d rather skip the scavenging and just buy upgrade parts outright, hop on your Sim’s computer and choose Buy Upgrades. Pick the parts you need, confirm the purchase, and they’ll show up in your Sim’s inventory.

⇒ Pro Tip:

  • Speaking of upgrades, to avoid Death by Murphy bed, just upgrade it with Reinforced Spring Wiring.

Get Upgrade Parts in Cottage Living

Upgrade parts are very convenient in The Sims 4: Cottage Living. For example, you can install Fox-Be-Gone alarms on your chicken coops to keep those sneaky wild foxes from snatching your eggs.

To unlock Livestock Upgrade Parts, you need to run errands for the villagers in Henford-on-Bagley. Approach them and engage in friendly interactions. Offer to help with any tasks they have.

Many villagers will have tasks for you, such as fetching specific cooking ingredients that you can grow in your own garden.

Some villagers will ask for forest mushrooms or items from the store.

Visit the Finchwick Fair on Saturdays and see if neighbors need help.

Make sure you read task descriptions carefully, because not every job actually rewards Livestock Upgrade Parts. If you’re trying to stock up on parts as efficiently as possible, only accept tasks that list upgrade parts as the reward.

Livestock Upgrades for Easier Maintenance

Livestock Upgrade Parts offer a major advantage: less maintenance.

  1. ComfortCare Life Extender
    • Extends the lifespan of your chickens.
    • Requires: 2 Livestock Upgrade Parts
  2. Livestock Auto-Feeder
    • Installs an automatic feeder.
    • Requires: 6 Livestock Upgrade Parts
  3. Fox-Be-Gone Alarms
    • Sets up an alarm to scare off foxes from the coop.
    • Requires: 3 Livestock Upgrade Parts

Auto-Feeders: Install them in animal sheds to ensure cows and llamas stay well-fed. You can also add them to chicken coops.

Fox-Be-Gone Alarm: Prevents wild foxes from attacking your chickens or stealing eggs. The alarm triggers automatically when a fox enters the coop, reducing chicken stress.

Installing a ComfortCare Life Extender can also extend the lifespan of your chickens, providing additional benefits.

Get Upgrade Parts in Eco-Lifestyle

If you have Eco Lifestyle installed, you can also craft your own upgrade parts with the Fabricator. First, you’ll need to learn the specific “recipe” for the part you want to make. Once you’ve got that, just head to the Fabricator and start crafting.

The machine does break down occasionally, but luckily, it’s easy to repair. And if you’re feeling adventurous, dumpster diving can sometimes reward you with a few eco-upgrade parts, too.

Happy Simming!
