Two teens can also exchange Promise Rings. This isn’t marriage. It’s a commitment that they’ll officially become a couple once both of them reach young adulthood.
There are a few limits built into the game to keep teen romance age appropriate:
No WooHoo. Teens don’t have access to this interaction at all.
No pregnancy. Since WooHoo isn’t available, there’s no “Try for Baby” option either, so teen pregnancy isn’t possible without mods.
No flirting with adults. Teens can only pursue romantic interactions with other teens. Every romantic option is locked when interacting with a Young Adult, Adult, or Elder.
No marriage. Only Young Adults, Adults, and Elders can get married. Promise Rings are the closest teen equivalent.
Mess Around is the teen equivalent of WooHoo. It uses the same under-the-covers animation, but Sims stay fully clothed the entire time. Think of it as a more innocent stand-in, letting teen couples have an intimate moment without unlocking anything mature.
If a teen couple is dating and one of them ages up to Young Adult before the other, romantic interactions between them disappear. They keep their relationship status and history, but can’t kiss, flirt, or Mess Around anymore.
Once the younger Sim also becomes a Young Adult, all romantic interactions unlock again and the couple can pick up right where they left off, now with the full adult interaction list available too.
If your teen Sim only has the “Give Romantic Gift” interaction available, the other teen may simply not be romantically interested in them.
With recent updates to The Sims 4, Sims have Romantic Interests. These preferences determine who they’re attracted to and whether they’ll respond positively to romantic interactions.
Even if the two Sims have a high friendship level, romance interactions may remain unavailable or be rejected if their romantic preferences aren’t compatible.
