Lots of Sims 4 players have complained about their Sims refusing to cook. Sometimes they start cooking but then suddenly stop and won’t finish. Even if you tell them to cook, they won’t listen.
What to Do if Your Sims Refuse to Cook
⇒ Quick Tip:
- If all cooking options are greyed out, go to Build Mode and turn off the Simple Living lot trait.
Disable Mods and Custom Content
Outdated Mods and Custom Content can cause lots of problems in your game, even if they don’t seem related to cooking issues. Try turning them off and see if the problem goes away.
You can do this by moving the Mods folder to your desktop.
Check Your Sim’s Age
Make sure your Sim is old enough to cook. Remember, Sims can’t learn cooking skills until they’re teenagers. Kids can’t cook in The Sims 4.
Also, check if this problem happens with all the Sims in your household who are old enough to cook. It might be a general glitch in the game.
Check if Something’s Blocking the Oven or Counter
If your Sims can’t use the oven or the kitchen counters, they won’t cook. Sometimes, invisible objects from using the move objects cheat can block them.
Items like clutter on counters, overhead lights, or a rack of pots and pans over the stove can get in the way.
Try rearranging your kitchen stuff to clear the path for your Sim to cook. Move the oven or cooker and check if the issue is solved.
Also, see if there’s anything left in the oven. Sims often won’t cook if there are leftovers inside.
Travel to a Different Lot
If your Sim is still having trouble, try making them travel to a different lot. It doesn’t have to be far or for long. Just a quick trip to the park or a friend’s house can sometimes fix the problem.
When they return home, see if they’re ready to cook again.
Replace the Fridge and Stove
Replace the fridge and stove if other solutions don’t work. Some users fixed the problem by deleting the old fridge and stove, then sending their Sim to another lot.
After getting new appliances, bring your Sim back and see if they use them.
If the issue persists, consider replacing the counters, too.
For an extra step, build a new kitchen.
If your Sims start cooking but never finish, mods or custom content could be causing the problem. Check for updates and make sure any CC kitchen items are up to date.
Happy Simming!
