In The Sims 4, your Sims can create hybrid plants by grafting two different plants together. Figuring out which plants work well as grafts lets you grow unique fruits, flowers, and even rare crops.
How Plant Grafting Works in The Sims 4
Grafting lets you create hybrid plants that can grow more than one type of harvestable at the same time. Once a hybrid matures, it will produce the crops of both parent plants.
Some combinations even result in a completely new third harvestable.
Hybrids grow at the speed of the base plant, and the quality of the harvest is also determined by the base plant.
Be careful with cuttings. Some plants survive only cutting, while others can handle up to three before dying.
Higher Gardening skill increases the chance of successful grafting.
After your Sim reaches Gardening Level 5, they can start taking cuttings from plants, whether they’re in your garden or growing in the wild. This is the first step toward grafting and creating hybrid plants.

Don’t forget, you can graft a Money Tree cutting onto any other plant to produce Money Fruits.
Grafting Is Very Profitable
High-quality harvestables from grafted plants can bring in a lot of Simoleons, whether your Sim does it as a hobby or a full-time career.
For a Rags to Riches Sim, grafting is an essential gardening strategy. When your Sim can’t afford to buy seeds, they can create new plants by combining ones already in their collection.
They can turn their garden into a profitable source of income without spending any Simoleons on new seeds.
Grafting can also help your Sim grow plants year-round outdoors.
By grafting seasonal crops onto a base plant that grows year-round, the hybrid counts as “all-season”. Your Sim can harvest them regardless of the current season.
Sage makes a great base plant because it grows all year, produces harvestables every day, and works in a vertical garden.
Once your Sim has a perfect-quality sage, they can start mass-producing perfect hybrid plants, keeping the garden full of high-quality crops no matter the season.
For example, grafting parsley, basil, and spinach onto a sage plant makes them all grow all year.
Similarly, combining strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries onto a chocoberries plant or apples, bananas, and pears onto a lemon tree lets your Sim enjoy these fruits in every season.
Use this hack if you don’t want to rely on greenhouses or indoor planting.
⇒ Quick Tip:
- Mushrooms and the Sixam Mosquito Trap can’t be used for grafting, so they’re exceptions.
