If onions are giving trouble, there are a few reliable places where they grow naturally. Wild onion plants exist in several worlds, but the game does not make them easy to grab right away.
Oasis Springs is one of the easiest spots to start. The neighborhood where Johnny Zest lives is especially popular for this. Spending a few in-game days there usually does the trick.

Onion plants tend to grow early in the morning, around five, so checking back each day helps.
Willow Creek is another good option. Walking around residential areas and community spaces can help you find onion plants once enough time passes.

Windenburg also has them, mostly in quieter outdoor areas like the countryside or older districts.
- Onion locations: Countryside, Old Town District, Van Haunt Estate
Newcrest sometimes spawns them near empty lots.
- Onion location: Midtown Meadows, near the Beech Byway lot
Granite Falls has onion plants around camping areas and ranger spots.

Spend Time in the Area Until Onion Plants Mature
One thing to keep in mind is timing. Wild plants do not grow if the lot is empty. Your Sim needs to actually hang around the area for plants to mature. That usually means staying on the same lot or nearby for a day or two, sometimes longer.
Harvesting wild plants takes patience, especially if your Sim does not live there.
Once you know where to look and give the plants time to grow, onions become much easier to get. It mostly comes down to sticking around long enough and checking back at the right time of day.
If waiting around sounds annoying, there are shortcuts. Using the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat lets you buy onions directly in Build Mode.
Another easy option is downloading a lot from the Gallery that already has onion plants growing.
Plant Your Own Onions
Another easy option to get onions is gardening. Click on a garden patch or planter and buy starter vegetable seed packets. When you open them, onions can show up randomly.
It might take a few packets, but they do appear from time to time, and this way, you can grow them right at home without hunting around the world.

If Eco Lifestyle is installed, there’s another way to use onions in The Sims 4. With a fizzing station and a high enough Mixology skill, Sims can make an onion-based fizzy drink.
However, most Sims really do not enjoy it. The reaction is usually pretty negative although they’ll get a Happy moodlet from drinking the juice.
