The Sims 4: Move to a New Lot and Keep All Your Animals

When you’ve earned a lot of money in Sims 4 Cottage Living and want to upgrade your farm, moving your animals isn’t straightforward because the game treats farm animals as objects.

Here’s what to do if you’re moving to a new house without losing your animals.

Moving Your Animals to a New House in The Sims 4

1. Gather Your Animals

Start by collecting all your animals and putting them in your inventory. Just click on each animal to do this. Once they’re all there, you can transfer them to your new farm.

2. Assign Them to Empty Sheds

Find an empty shed on your new farm and click on it. Then choose “Assign to shed” to move animals from your inventory into the shed. You should see all your cows and llamas listed there.

This also applies to animals roaming around your farm. If you don’t see the option, buy a new shed and try again.

⇒ Kind Reminder: Chickens Age in Inventory

Chickens continue to age even while they’re in your personal inventory. Leaving them there for too long could mean they won’t survive when you try to bring them back out. They’ll eventually die of old age.

Don’t Sell Your Furniture

If your new house comes with furniture, you might think about selling the furniture from your old place. But hold off on clicking “Sell furniture” right away.

In the game, farm animals are treated like objects. So, using that option could accidentally sell them along with the furniture.

If You’ve Already Sold Your Furniture

If you’ve already hit “Sell furniture” without moving your animals to your inventory, you’ll need to revert to an older save. Once you do that, make sure to move your animals to your inventory before moving to a new lot.

Remember to save your game frequently, especially before or after significant events, so you can restore your progress if anything goes wrong.

The Sims 4 creates backups of your save files automatically. You can access your last five saves as recovery files if needed.

Happy Simming!
