Adding cars would just make The Sims 4 harder to run on low-end computers. The devs want everyone to be able to play, even if their device isn’t super powerful.
Why Cars Just Don’t Work in The Sims 4
The neighborhoods in The Sims 4 are just too small, and some don’t even have roads. There’s barely enough travel time to make cars useful.
Think about it for a second. If cars were added, it would probably look something like this:
- Your Sim gets in the car.
- They drive for 3–5 seconds.
- A load screen pops up.
- The car is suddenly parked, and your Sim gets out.
The game layout just isn’t built for cars, and not every house is connected to roads.
The Sims series has always simulated life on a neighborhood scale, not a full city scale.
Including drivable cars would require massive changes:
Roads would need to be functional with traffic AI.
Lots would need garages, driveways, and parking.
Animations and routing for cars would have to be created.
Essentially, the Sims’ world isn’t big enough for realistic driving without making the game much more complex or resource-heavy.
The Sims 4 prioritizes personal and social simulation, not realistic city or vehicle simulation.
Cars would mostly be cosmetic, as Sims already teleport between lots.
Fans of The Sims 3 remember cruising around in cars and wish The Sims 4 had the same option. Watching your Sim drive for five seconds and vanish into thin air isn’t exactly fun.
That said, it doesn’t look like we’ll see drivable cars in The Sims 4 anytime soon. The developers are busy focusing on new expansion packs and fixing existing bugs, so cars are still just a dream.
For now, your Sims will have to stick to teleportation to travel around.
Happy Simming!
