If your Sim wants to be an Astronaut, building a rocket is key to leveling up their Rocket Science skill. But many players have trouble with this. They buy the rocket kit, place it, but can’t interact with it.
Here’s how to fix this problem.
Fix 1: Ask an NPC to Start Building the Rocket
Invite a townie over. Make a group with them and use the “Build Together” interaction. Let the NPC start building the rocket. Then, you can finish the job.
⇒ Quick Tip: Use the Rocket at GeekCon
- You can use the rocket at GeekCon for space missions. If you’re in a Scientist career, you can also build your rocket at GeekCon.
Fix 2: Use the Build Rocket (DEBUG) Option
- Buy the 5000 Simoleons rocket launchpad.
- Place the rocket launchpad on your lot.
- Press CTRL, SHIFT, and C to open the cheat console.
- Type
testingcheats onand press Enter. - Press SHIFT and right-click on the launchpad.
- Select “Build Rocket (DEBUG)”.
The game will automatically build the rocket for you. Add all the necessary upgrades.
While this workaround doesn’t fix the issue of building a rocket from scratch, the progress still counts towards completing your aspiration.
Fix 3: Repair Your Game Files
If your game files are corrupted, some features might not work. To fix that, you need to repair your Sims 4 game files.
Go to your Library, and select The Sims 4. Click on the three dots to open the context menu and select the Repair option.
Next, clear the cache:
- Go to your Electronic Arts folder.
- Open the Sims 4 folder.
- Open your Documents folder.
- Find and delete the
localthumbcachefile.
Restart your computer and launch The Sims 4. Check if you can build a rocket now.
Fix 4: Cottage Living Breaks Rocket Building
Many players reported that the Cottage Living expansion breaks rocket building. Specifically, the Finchwick Fair from Cottage Living seems to cause the problem.
You can build a rocket in a new save before the first Saturday when the Finchwick Fair occurs. After the Fair, new rocket kits stop working, as per players’ reports.
You don’t need to attend or enter the Finchwick Fair for this to happen. The fair taking place is enough to break the rocket-building feature.
Happy Simming!
