How Long Does It Take for a Sim’s Tan to Fade in The Sims 4?
Your Sim’s tan usually fades away in 2 to 4 Sim days after sunbathing. It depends on how long they spent in the sun.
If you want them to have a nice tan, stop sunbathing when they start feeling “Sunkissed” to avoid sunburn.

Preventing Sunburn in The Sims 4
When your Sim starts to get sunburnt, you’ll see the “Starting to Burn” alert. You can still save them by stopping sunbathing and finding shade immediately.
If they stay in the sun, they’ll get bad sunburns and feel down for about 5 hours.
Curing Sunburn in The Sims 4
If your Sim gets sunburnt, speed up the healing by having them take a mud bath. They’ll usually recover from severe sunburns in less than 3 Sim days.
Sunscreen in The Sims 4
In The Sims 4, you can use sunscreen after your Sim starts to tan, not before. Click on your Sim while they’re on a lounge chair, and you’ll see the option to apply sunscreen.
Sunscreen won’t prevent sunburn. It only delays the burning effect.
You can also purchase sunscreen from the beach supplies machine. The sunscreen bottle available in Build & Buy mode is just for decoration. You can’t use it to apply sunscreen to your Sim’s skin.

Pranking Sims While Sunbathing
In The Sims 4, Sims can prank each other while sunbathing. Just click on a Sim while they’re sunbathing and choose Prank Sunbather to make your Sim happy.
The prank’s result shows up when the pranked Sim gets a tan or burn. If successful, the pranked Sims will develop weird tan lines, which will make them look silly and feel embarrassed for 5 hours.
Using Cheats for Tanning in Sims 4
If you use cheats to tan your Sims, they’ll get tan lines based on whatever they’re wearing at the time.
For example, if you do it while they’re wearing pajamas, it can look quite odd.
