Roommates in The Sims 4 can decide to move out if their needs aren’t being met, so it’s important to make sure they have everything they need to stay happy.
Start by giving them enough space.
Roommates need their own living space that they can access freely. Each roommate should have a bed assigned to them and some furniture like dressers, shelves, and side tables.
They often bring stuff from home, so make sure there’s room for their belongings.
Also, check that they have access to basic appliances like a microwave, mini-fridge, and a full bathroom. Add a laptop as well.
Most Sims can share a room, but some roommates don’t like sharing space and will decide to move out much faster because of it.
If you’re using gender doors, make sure both types are available and that no areas are locked or blocked off.
Get to know your roommates.
Try to get to know your roommates and learn more about their traits, because their needs are tied to them.
For example, an Active Sim will want athletic gear or a punching bag. A vegetarian roommate needs vegetarian food available. Bookworms like bookshelves and chess tables.
Watch what your roommates do a lot to figure out their “addictions.” Someone who spends most of their time cooking will get upset if the kitchen isn’t working properly.
Try to get along with them. Even if you don’t like your roommates, avoid mean interactions and try to build some friendship. Happy roommates are much less likely to pack up and leave.
Repair any broken items and keep the room tidy.
Keeping your dorm nice and tidy keeps your roommates happy. Check the room for anything broken and fix it as soon as possible. A broken fridge means food will spoil quickly, a broken washing machine stops laundry from getting done, and broken showers can make your roommates uncomfortable.
Cleaning is just as important. Dirty tubs, messy floors, and clutter can trigger the Filthy Surroundings moodlet, which makes Sims unhappy. Wipe up messes and clean things regularly to keep everyone comfortable.
Some roommates just won’t be satisfied no matter what you do. Even if all their needs are met and the house is set up perfectly, they can still decide to leave.
Happy Simming!
