Update 7/1/2025:
- PC 1.116.202.1030, Mac: 1.116.202.1230, and Console: 2.14 updates have patched this really annoying bug.
Seeing rain pouring inside your Sim’s house? You’re not alone. This weird bug has been around in The Sims 4 for a while. It doesn’t matter if you’re using mods or custom content —this is happening to everyone.
The bug actually started after the Life and Death update. It really kicked in during the holiday event, around November or so.
⇒ If your game hasn’t been updated since before Life and Death, consider yourself lucky—you probably won’t see this bug.
The rain glitch that most players are seeing is usually just visual—no puddles — even though it passes through ceilings and roofs.
For about 99% of players, this glitch doesn’t hurt electronics. Plus, Sims don’t seem to notice the rain or snow inside—they act like everything is normal.
However, this is not just a visual bug for some players. The rain inside actually breaks stuff. For example, certain stoves can get damaged like they’re outside. Your Sim is just trying to cook dinner and suddenly gets zapped.
That probably means something’s off with the walls, ceiling, or room setup. Make sure that the roofs are actually covering all of the rooms.
The Real Issue
Some testing shows the game is fully treating indoor spaces as if they’re outdoors. It’s not just about visuals—Sims can actually do outdoor-only actions while inside.
Here’s a quick list of things Sims are doing indoors when this glitch hits:
- Cloudgazing
- Watching the night sky
- Going for a jog or hike
- Burning or freezing to death
The Workarounds
Disable Weather Effects
The only real fix right now is to turn off all rain, thunderstorms, and snow in the Environment options.
Yeah, it’s not ideal—but if the indoor rain is driving you nuts, turning off the rain and snow options in the game settings might save your sanity.
Use Stairwells, Not Ladders
Got a ladder in the room instead of a stairwell? That might be the problem.
In some builds, ladders leading to rooftop terraces have caused rain to leak into the rooms below. Replacing the ladder with regular stairs has helped fix it for some players.
EA Is Investigating the Bug
This bug has been “under investigation” for half a year. Players are very upset because no progress or updates have been shared.
If the in-game weather fix will take time, providing an update to players in the patch notes would be helpful. Sharing the status of the investigation keeps players informed instead of leaving the issue unaddressed for several months.
