The Adventurous, Independent, and Prowler traits can make pets more likely to wander off. On the other hand, Loyal and Affectionate pets are less likely to run away.

If your pet gets scared during a house fire, put the fire out as quickly as possible. Once the danger has passed, your pet should eventually return.

Be careful when training your pets, too. If you need to correct misbehavior, don’t constantly scold them or use overly harsh interactions. Pets can run away after getting scolded too harshly.

You can speed up your pet’s return by posting a Missing Pet notice.

Open your Sim’s phone and select the option to post a Missing Pet alert. Your pet should return relatively quickly after you post the notice.

If you don’t report them missing, you may have to wait several days for them to come home on their own.

Taking care of your pet’s needs is the best way to reduce the chances of them running away.

Make sure they’re fed, give them attention every day, and keep an eye on their hygiene and other needs. An automatic feeder can help keep their food bowl full.

You can also lock your doors and yard gates so your pets can’t wander off the lot. If the exits are locked, they won’t be able to leave unless you take them somewhere yourself.

Dogs also benefit from regular walks. Taking your dog for a walk gives you some extra time together and can improve your relationship.

And if your pet gets sick, take them to the vet rather than letting the illness linger.

A little attention each day goes a long way. Happy pets are much less likely to decide that they need to disappear for a few days.
