If you want to make your Sim’s life harder, lot challenges are a pretty easy way to do it.

To enable lot challenges, open the lot information panel by clicking the three buttons underneath the house icon. From there, you can select the lot challenges you want to add.

You can add multiple lot challenges to the same property, so you can combine several problems and make the lot progressively more difficult.

Gremlins.

The Gremlins lot challenge is one of the most annoying ones if you don’t like constantly repairing things.

While your Sims are sleeping, appliances and plumbing can break. You’ll wake up to broken objects that need to be repaired or replaced.

It’s especially annoying when several things break during the same night.

Cursed.

Cursed makes uncomfortable and tense moodlets last longer and can cause other nasty effects.

Your Sims can get voodooed and experience Dazed or Angry moodlets. There are also risks associated with exercising and repairing broken objects, including exhaustion and electrocution.

Random fires can also start on the lot, so you’ll need to keep an eye on your Sims and make sure they deal with fires before they spread.

If you’re worried about your Sim getting electrocuted while repairing things, hiring someone else to do the repairs is the safer option.

The Creepy Crawlies lot challenge adds spiders, bees, bats, and other insects to your property.

Your Sims can get attacked by the insects, which can give them an Uncomfortable moodlet.

This challenge comes with Jungle Adventure, and insect repellents can help keep the creepy crawlies under control.

The Filthy lot challenge makes objects get dirty much faster.

Your Sim will spend a lot more time cleaning and dealing with the Filthy Surroundings moodlet. You can hire a maid or butler if you don’t want your Sim to spend half their day cleaning.

Or, if you’re trying to make things difficult, just let the dirt pile up.

The Spooky lot challenge attracts ghosts to your property.

Your Sims can become Scared, while ghosts may break household objects, move things around, and generally make themselves a nuisance.

It’s worth pointing out that this isn’t quite as intense as living in a haunted house from Paranormal Stuff, but it can still make the lot considerably more annoying.

Quake Zone

The Quake Zone challenge causes occasional earthquakes.

When one happens, your Sims can become Scared and drop whatever they’re doing. They’ll also get the Seismophobia buff for a couple of hours.

It’s more of an interruption than a serious threat, so this one isn’t particularly difficult on its own.

The Grody lot challenge can make your Sims feel nauseous when eating, drinking, or using the toilet.

They can get an Uncomfortable moodlet while dealing with the effects, which isn’t great when you’re trying to get anything done.

The good news is that it doesn’t happen every time. There’s only a 30 percent chance of getting nauseous from these activities, so Grody is more annoying than genuinely dangerous.

Off-the-Grid is another challenging lot challenge.

No electricity, no running water, and definitely no easy life. Your Sims will have to find other ways to cook, clean, and survive. Hope nobody enjoys long showers.

If living without power isn’t stressful enough, you can enable Haunted House Residential.

This lot challenge will add ghosts, strange noises, creepy visitors, and paranormal activity happening at the worst possible moments.

The Dark Ley Line lot has some seriously dark energy. Your Sims might start noticing more supernatural activity than usual. Probably not the best place to raise a family.

Speaking of supernatural beings, maybe you want to add the Vampire Nexus lot challenge.

Vampires love hanging around here. Expect some unexpected nighttime visitors, and maybe keep the front door locked.

For a particularly miserable household, Cursed + Gremlins + Filthy is a pretty brutal combination.

Your Sims will have to deal with broken objects, dirty surroundings, and all the problems caused by the Cursed challenge.

If you want something slightly less chaotic, try Filthy + Grody and give one of your Sims the Slob trait. That should make keeping the house clean and your Sims comfortable considerably harder.
