Here’s Why Kleptomaniac Sims Are So Much Fun

Kleptomaniac Sims are surprisingly fun to play because they add a little chaos to your game.

If your Sim is a kleptomaniac and hasn’t “borrowed” anything for a while, they’ll get the Need to Swipe Tense moodlet. It means they’re itching to steal something.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Visit a Sim’s house or a public place after dark.
  2. Click on the object you want to steal.
  3. Choose Swipe Something.
  4. Your Sim will try to nab that object or something nearby.

Once they’ve swiped something, your klepto Sim will feel exhilarated with an Exhilarating Steal moodlet.

It lasts from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the value of the stolen item.

⇒ Pro Tip:

  • If a Sim has the Kleptomaniac trait, they’ll often end up stealing books from their workplace. It’s just part of their habit. They can’t resist taking things, even when they’re at work.

Stealing Limits in The Sims 4

Klepto Sims can steal up to three items each night. If you’re quick and snatch three items before midnight, you can grab three more after midnight.

But here’s the trick: you need to take a break from stealing the next day. After the break, you can resume your thieving ways.

⇒ Pro Tip:

  • The Enhanced Kleptomaniac reward comes from the Sticky Fingers aspiration. It lets your Sim steal without any cooldown, which is pretty handy. But if they go too long without swiping something, they start to get tense.

Kleptomaniac Sims can’t successfully steal if they’re being watched by another Sim, even babies.

If they try to steal something on their own and another Sim sees the whole thing, the klepto will get the “Caught in the Act” embarrassment moodlet.

This moodlet sticks around longer than the Exhilarating Steal one.

Tips for Kleptomaniac Sims

Making Money

Kleptomaniac Sims can actually make a living by stealing things from other Sims and then selling whatever they’ve pilfered.

Choosing Targets

Start small by stealing decorative items, then work your way up to more valuable objects as you gain experience. Eventually, you can even steal large items like antique grand pianos or pieces of ancient ruins.

Art Theft

Klepto Sims can swipe various pieces of art, including graffiti tags, large sculptures, expensive electronics like TVs and computers, musical instruments, and paintings, which can fetch a good price.

Be Selective

While you can steal almost anything, avoid swiping dirty dishes just for the sake of stealing to prevent triggering the filthy surroundings moodlet.

Items Off-Limits

Klepto Sims cannot steal items from surfaces with objects already on them, essential items for life, or anything that would make a venue incomplete.

⇒ Important Reminder:

You can’t steal anything until you’ve built up some Mischief skill.

For instance, at Mischief level 2, you can swipe small items like a toilet roll holder. The higher your Mischief level, the more you can steal.

Happy Simming!
