How to Grow Oversized Crops in The Sims 4

Growing oversized crops is a profitable activity in The Sims 4: Cottage Living. Here’s what you need to know about growing giant crops.

Step 1: Choose Your Plot

Head to Build/Buy Mode and pick the spot where you want to plant the seeds. Remember, you can only grow oversized crops in the new gardening plots from Cottage Living.

Step 2: Get Oversized Crop Seeds

Regular seeds won’t cut it. You need special seeds for giant crops. Use the game’s buy menu to grab these seeds.

You can also find Oversized Crop Seeds at Agnes and Agatha Crumplebottom’s garden stall in Finchwick.

Step 3: Get Oversized Crop Fertilizer

Since oversized crops are special, you’ll need special fertilizer to help them grow big.

I’ll cover fertilizers later in this post.

Step 4: Plant Your Oversized Seeds

Get those seeds into the soil. Use the Plant option to sow the seeds.

You’ve got to take excellent care of your plants to grow the biggest crops possible. If you neglect them, your plants will wither and die.

Sims can grow five types of oversized crops:

  1. Aubergine
  2. Lettuce
  3. Mushroom
  4. Pumpkin
  5. Watermelon

Oversized crops typically take 4 Sims days to grow. Once they’re fully grown, you can select the Harvest option.

If you want to speed up the growth process, use the Grow-Fast Fertilizer.

Step 5: Care for Your Plants

Water Your Plants

Make sure to water your plants every day. This helps them grow quickly and produce the best crops. If you forget to water them, your crops will end up smaller and you won’t get as much money when selling them.

Use Oversized Fertilizers

Fertilize your crops daily to help them grow big. Plants need lots of fertilizer for giant crops.

Here are some types you can use:

  • Hyper Growth Fertilizer: Excellent for Oversized Crops.
  • Grow-Fast Fertilizer: Speeds up growth for timely harvests.
  • Hassle-Free Fertilizer: Boosts growth while keeping pests away.
  • Vitality Fertilizer: Enhances plant health.
  • Super Vitality Fertilizer: Makes plants super healthy.

⇒ Quick Tip:

  • Cleaning out animal sheds and coops can sometimes give you free Vitality or Super Vitality Fertilizers. Use them to grow giant crops.

Remove Weeds and Spray for Bugs

Always keep an eye out for weeds and bugs. Use the available interactions to remove weeds and keep pests away whenever needed.

Encourage Crop Growth

Encourage your Sims to use this interaction regularly. It motivates them to take good care of the crops, ensuring all their needs are met.

Reach Gardening Level 9

Strive to reach gardening level 9 quickly. This unlocks the “Tend Garden” interaction, making crop care a top priority for your Sims.

Socialize with Plants

Interacting with your plants can help them reach their full potential. Here are the available interactions:

  • Urge to Romaine Calm
  • Vent About Problems
  • Give Encourage-Mint
  • Share News About Flowery Matters
  • Take Selfie with Crop

Get Help From Patchy and Your Farm Animals

Get Patchy to Help with Gardening

You can bring Patchy to life so he can lend a hand in the garden. Once animated, he’ll water plants, weed them, and fertilize them. With Patchy around, your crops grow faster and tend to be of higher quality.

Just remember, Patchy only helps during the day. After 5 PM, he returns to being an ordinary scarecrow. Patchy’s animated life lasts for only 6 hours.

Did you know that birds, bunnies, and golden chickens can lend a hand in your garden? First, befriend these creatures, then ask for their assistance.

Rabbits: Weeding and Fertilizing Plants for Free

Interact with wild rabbits in your garden. To attract them faster, place a tree stump with a rabbit hole from Bramblewood in your garden.

Rabbits will munch on weeds and fertilize the soil.

Birds Can Sing to Your Crops

Befriend birds near a dead tree in Bramblewood. Place a dead tree near your garden in Build Mode and ask the birds to help.

They’ll eat bugs and sing to your crops, aiding their growth.

Golden Chickens Can Bless Your Crops

Turn one of your hens into a Golden Chicken by giving it a golden treat. Befriend it and ask for its assistance.

Golden chickens can bless your crops, helping them grow bigger and faster.

Step 6: Harvest Your Crops

It’s time to enjoy the results of your hard work (pun intended). If you care for your plants well, you’ll harvest Large Oversized Crops.

But if you didn’t, you might end up with small or medium-sized crops.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • 9 small-sized crops from one garden plot
  • 2 medium-sized crops in one garden plot
  • 1 Large Oversized Crop

Best Strategies for Faster Growth of Oversized Crops

Maintain Plant Health

Ensure your plants are healthy by watering them daily, removing weeds, and keeping bugs at bay. Regularly fertilize them using special fertilizers to promote rapid growth.

Reach Gardening Level 9: Aim to reach gardening level 9 as soon as possible. Unlocking the “Tend Garden” interaction allows your Sims to efficiently water, weed, and spray plants until they’re fully taken care of for the day.

Limit Animals

Minimize the number of animals you keep to maximize time for plant care. Caring for cows and llamas can be time-consuming, so focus on raising chickens instead.

Chickens require less time to care for, and you can breed them, unlike cows and llamas.

What to Do with Oversized Crops

Harvest your huge crops and decide what to do with them. I suggest selling Large Oversized Crops because they earn a lot of money.

You can also enter them into the Oversized Crop Competition at the Finchwick Fair to win ribbons and prizes.

Sell medium-sized crops to earn some cash. Use small-sized crops for cooking and canning.

Selling Prices for Oversized Crops

The price you get for oversized crops depends on their weight, size, and quality. A blessing from a golden chicken can increase the selling price.

Here’s what you can expect to earn from selling different types of giant crops:

Pumpkins

  • Small Pumpkins: 35 to 55 Simoleons
  • Medium Pumpkins: 100 to 180 Simoleons
  • Oversized Pumpkins: 230 to 440 Simoleons

Watermelons

  • Small Watermelons: 30 to 50 Simoleons
  • Medium Watermelons: 85 to 145 Simoleons
  • Oversized Watermelons: 200 to 380 Simoleons

Mushrooms

  • Small Mushrooms: 25 to 40 Simoleons
  • Medium Mushrooms: 90 to 150 Simoleons
  • Oversized Mushrooms: 390 to 740 Simoleons

Lettuce

  • Small Lettuce: 25 to 40 Simoleons
  • Medium Lettuce: 85 to 140 Simoleons
  • Oversized Lettuce: 300 to 580 Simoleons

Aubergines

  • Small Aubergines: 25 to 40 Simoleons
  • Medium Aubergines: 80 to 140 Simoleons
  • Oversized Aubergines: 200 to 365 Simoleons

What Happens if You Neglect Your Crops

If you don’t take good care of your crops, you won’t harvest Large Oversized Crops. Instead, you’ll only get Small or Medium Oversized Crops.

You can still use smaller crops for cooking and canning, but they won’t make as much money if you decide to sell them.

Enter the Finchwick Fair Competition

Harvest your top oversized crops and submit them to the Finchwick Fair’s Oversized Crop Competition. There are big rewards at stake, and the mayor will choose the winner. Large Oversized Crops have the best shot at winning.

Harvest your giant crops on the day of the event for maximum freshness, a handy tip to boost your chances of winning.

If you harvest the crop before the event, store it in the fridge to prevent spoilage.

However, remember that Oversized Crops can still spoil if left in the fridge for too long.

Happy Simming!
