Sims 4 Hacks: Slow Down Needs Decay for Happy Sims

Keeping your Sims happy can be a full-time job, especially when their needs drop faster than you can keep up. Use this step-by-step guide to slow needs decay and keep your Sims happy.

Use Cheats to Freeze Your Sim’s Needs

The simplest method is to stop the decay entirely. You can do this using a built-in cheat.

  1. Press Control, Shift, and C to open the cheat console.
  2. Type testingcheats true.
  3. Then Shift-click your Sim.
  4. Select Disable Need Decay, and your Sims’ bars will stop dropping.

This is perfect if you want to focus on storytelling or events without interruptions.

Freezing Specific Needs

You can also choose to disable specific needs. You don’t have to turn off all needs. If one or two bars are causing trouble, you can freeze just those.

To freeze specific needs, open the cheat console and type the command that matches the need you want to stop from decaying.

  • Hunger: motive_hunger_decay off
  • Bladder: motive_bladder_decay off
  • Energy: motive_energy_decay off
  • Fun: motive_fun_decay off
  • Social: motive_social_decay off
  • Hygiene: motive_hygiene_decay off

Once you type the command in the cheat console, that specific need will stop dropping.

You can later turn it back on with the same cheat, but replace off with on.

Use Potions and Rewards

If you want to keep things in-game without relying on cheats, there are potions and lifetime rewards that help.

Sims in the Scientist career unlock the ability to create potions that refill needs, like Steel Bladder or Hardly Hungry.

These let you top up your Sims’ bars instantly, so they stay happy and functional for hours.

You can also purchase these lifetime rewards directly if you don’t want to wait for career progression.

Use Mods to Tweak Needs Decay

There’s a tool called UI Cheats Extension that makes adjusting needs effortless. You just click the end of a bar, and it fills up instantly. It’s especially useful if your Sim is stuck at work or attending a big event.

With MCCC, you can slow down all needs at once or adjust each one individually. You can also control how often Sims take care of their needs on their own.

How Fast Sims’ Needs Drop

Every Sim has six basic needs, and each one drains at its own pace. Some disappear faster than others.

Hunger disappears the quickest. On average, a Sim can stay full for 4 to 6 hours. If you don’t feed them, they start complaining, and their mood drops fast.

Bladder lasts a little longer, usually 8 to 12 hours. Still, if a Sim pushes it too far, accidents do happen. They’ll pee themselves and feel embarrassed for a few hours afterward.

Energy is a slow burn. Sims can go 14 to 20 hours without sleep before crashing. This is why long workdays or overnight parties can make tired Sims cranky.

Fun drains at a moderate pace, around 7 to 10 hours. Keeping Sims entertained with games, TV, or hobbies prevents boredom from sneaking up.

For most Sims, the Social bar lasts anywhere from 8 to 15 hours, but it really depends on their traits and lifestyle.

Friendly interactions, flirting, or casual chatting keep the bar from dropping, and Sims who are naturally outgoing will need social attention more often.

Sims with the Loner trait are a special case. They don’t crave social interaction as much, so their social bar drops more slowly, and they can happily spend long stretches alone

Hygiene is the slowest need to drop, lasting 24 to 36 hours. Sims can get a little messy without immediate consequences, but if left too long, it’ll start hurting their overall happiness.

⇒ Quick Tip:

  • Before important events, get your Sims’ needs fully green. Avoid actions that could upset them or put them in a negative mood in the 24 hours leading up to the event.

Happy Simming!
